Vahl, Dorothy A.
Dorothy A. Vahl, 76, of Davenport, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The officiant will be Pastor Ron Huber. Musical selections will be provided by accompanist Peggy Vance and vocalist Macaela Watson. Serving as casket bearers will be Steve Bockwoldt, Susan Duwa, Sandy Caes, Sharon Niles, Grant Baumann, Greg Baumann and Jason Baumann. Interment will take place at the Durant Cemetery, Durant.
Dorothy was born July 16, 1934, to Charles and Grace (Ploen) Bockwoldt, in Davenport, Iowa. Dorothy graduated from Durant High School in 1952. She married Rod D. Vahl on June 11, 1955, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1992.
Dorothy worked at Truman School in Davenport as a teacher associate with special needs children. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. She enjoyed the Cubs and Hawkeyes. Above all, she loved her family.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Jerry and wife Deb Vahl of Marion; her son-in-law, Craig Novak of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Taleah Novak and fiance Brad McNabb, Mallorie Novak, Macaela and husband Jared Watson and Maddisen Vahl; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Grace; her sister, Dianne and husband Dr. William Baumann of Fairfield; and her brother, Rolland and wife Gloria Bockwoldt of Wilton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Jane Novak; and her brother, Roger Bockwoldt.
Memorial donations may be made to Camp Courageous in her memory.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Eileen Butenschoen for the many years of friendship and care she provided to Dorothy.
