Marie Catherine Curry was born Feb. 17, 1915, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Sarah (Duffy) Curry. Growing up near Cosgrove, she attended and graduated from Cosgrove High School, the Class of 1934. Marie married Donald E. "Coonie" Crow on her birthday, Feb. 17, 1938, in Dubuque. The couple had been married over 69 years before his death on July 29, 2007.
She and her husband only knew the farming way of life, good hard work, strong faith in their God, support your neighbors and love your family and friends. Marie lived this daily; she was the caregiver to her parents, her siblings and later to her husband, never leaving their sides. She loved the farm life, her chickens, gardening, cooking and baking, counting her many blessings and thanking God for all.
Marie and Donald were lifelong members of Windham Community Church. She was a longtime Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher; there for every ice cream social, church potluck and so much more, always willing to help and give of herself without seeking anything in return; that was our Marie.
Her family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry Seaton; granddaughter, Brigitte Olson (Jeff); great-grandchildren, Jack, Katie and Rachel Olson; stepgranddaughters, Keeley Carter (Rick) and Trish Seaton; and stepgreat-granddaughters, Hailey and Lia Carter; sisters-in-law, Aileen Costillo, Ada Crow, Helen Day and Helen Crow; and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Leonard and Arietta Curry, Cyril "Mick" Curry and Cletus "Jake" Curry; and stepgrandson, Nick Seaton.
Marie's family would like to share their sincere gratitude and love for Marie's niece, Shirley Schmidt, dear friend, Helen Schulte, and all at Iowa City Hospice for all they have done for not only Marie, but her family through all of these days. We will never forget you!
