Patricia E. (Carter) Akers, 74, passed away peacefully Jan. 22, 2016. Celebration of Life gathering will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Papich-Kuba Funeral

Surviving are her loving husband of 41 years, John D. Akers; her sister, Carol (Steve) Faber; two brothers, Eugene Carter and Larry Weise; son, David (Cathy) Dunek; daughter, Kristin Day (Jerry) DeBaker; daughter, Jackie (Richard) Pozzi; Kevin (Kelly) Bass; many nieces and nephews with their families; seven grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters, with another one on her way this spring.
She was born in Belmond, Iowa, to Aroby "Red" and Zola (Christie) Carter on Sept. 24, 1941. She graduated from Belmond Community High School in 1960, and moved to Cedar Rapids, receiving her medical assistant certification in 1969. Pat married John Akers on Nov. 9, 1974. She later worked for Sergeant Co., then Weyerhaeuser for a number of years until multiple sclerosis made her retire.
Pat's family wishes to thank the staff and friends of Manor Care (Pat's second home for 17 years) for their love, support and care.
Her genuine laugh and sense of humor will be missed by all.
A memorial fund has been established.
