Wells, Maria A.
Maria A. Wells, 94, of Winslow House Care Center in Marion, formerly of Davenport, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at The Runge Mortuary in Davenport, officiated by the Rev. Ron Huber of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until services at the mortuary. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.
Maria was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Davenport, the daughter of Louis and Maria Mueller. She was united in marriage to Bertrand Wells on April 23, 1938, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1996.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and belonged to the Kings Daughters MyrLin Ann Circle. Since 1974, she volunteered her time by recording books for the blind for the Department of the Blind. She also enjoyed volunteering at Garfield Elementary School in Davenport for the “Listen To Me Read” program. She loved traveling with her husband, walking at the mall, doing crossword puzzles and especially spending time with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Pam (Stewart) Grobe, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Stephanie (Jim) Wolfe, Marion; grandchildren, Jason (Joan) Wolfe, Sara (Aaron) Pata and Ryan (Christina) Wolfe, all of Marion; great-grandchildren, Emily, Megan, Max, Jack, Katie, Owen, Brody, Carson and Josie; and a sister, Jean Mueller, Davenport.
Her parents and a brother, Warren Mueller, preceded her in death.
The family would like to thank Winslow House Care Center and Bickford Cottage of Marion as well as the Davenport Lutheran Home Assisted Living for all of their help and support.
