Jeffrey "Jeff" Dean Carter, 54, of Marion, died unexpectedly following injuries suffered in a vehicle/pedestrian accident on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, in Tyler, Texas. Cremation has taken place. Memorial gathering: 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, conducted by Deacon James Luksetich. Inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery at a later date.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Carter; children, Meggan (Spence) Rubendall, Scott Carter and Michael Carter; their mother, Robyn Carter; his parents, Jerry and Nancy Carter; brother, Gregory (Elsa) Carter; two sisters, Kimberly (Brian) Carter-Clark and Sherri (Jeff) Vanhess; mother-in-law, Rita Luksetich; granddaugthers, Charlotte Rubendall and McKenzie Rubendall; grandson, Tyler Rubendall; stepdaughter, Molly (Sam) Pettit; stepsons, Andrew Clark and Alexander Clark; and stepgrandson, Jack Pettit.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Thomas Luksetich.
Jeff was born June 28, 1962, in Denver, Colo., the son of Jerry and Nancy (Wright) Carter. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School. Jeff received his bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Florida Institute of Technology.
On June 25, 2016, he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Luksetich, in Las Vegas, Nev. Jeff was employed at CEC.
Jeff was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was very devoted to his work at CEC. He enjoyed listening to Elton John and the Beatles, and playing his guitar. Jeff loved his family above all. He especially loved being "Papa" to his beloved grandbabies.
Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in honor of his granddaughter, Charlotte.
