Zach Johnson is hotter than August

Only one golfer has recorded five straight Top Ten finishes on the PGA Tour this year.

It isn't Tiger Woods, though he did have a four-tourney stretch with three wins and a tie for fourth at the Masters. That's pretty good.

No, the answer is Cedar Rapids' own Zach Johnson, who peeled off his fifth-straight Top-10 (Top-8, actually) with a tie for fifth at the Wyndham Championship Sunday. Two of those were at majors, a tie for sixth at the British Open and a tie for eighth at the PGA Championship. That was sandwiched with a tie for fourth at the star-studded World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational.

Billy Horschel also had four straight Top-10s this year. No one else on the Tour has more than three.

Johnson will sit out this week's Barclays Classic, the first of the four-event FedExCup playoffs. He has a good reason. His brother, Gabe, is getting married Saturday. But at 18th in the FedExCup standings, he has enough points to be locked into the following week's event, and probably the following two. The top 30 players after the first three events advance to the season-ending Tour Championship, where the FedExCup champion will be determined.

"I mean overall, I feel like the direction my game is right now is terrific," Johnson said Sunday. "I've just got to make some more putts. I'm hitting the ball fine. Probably driving the ball as good as I can drive it consistently week-in, week-out. So, it's just a matter of making a couple more putts and executing a little bit better."
