KIAWAH ISLAND, SC - It wasn't the Sunday that Zach Johnson wanted at the PGA Championship, but regardless of the final round 79 that he carded at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, the Cedar Rapids native will be a member of the United States Ryder Cup team for the third time in his career (2006, 2010).
Johnson finished sixth in the two-year qualifying points system - eight players automatically qualified, led by Tiger Woods - and will be a part of the U.S. team from Sept. 25-30 at Medinah County Club in Illinois.
This year's Ryder Cup will mark the first time Johnson has made the squad when the competition is played on United States soil. The Americans are 0-2 in the Ryder Cups in which Johnson has participated. In 2010, the Americans made a furious singles comeback but ultimately lost the Cup 14.5-13.5.
Johnson is 2-2-1 in team matches and 1-1 in singles matches in his Ryder Cup career.
