Cimburek, John
John Cimburek, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at West Ridge Care Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Clark-Bridges presiding. Private family entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
John was born May 26, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Agnes Sirowy Cimburek. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. John married Helen Stotelmyre on Jan. 29, 1949, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. John graduated from Iowa State College with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power Company (Alliant) for over 30 years until his retirement. He enjoyed collecting stamps, bowling and camping as a member of “The Rolling Rovers.” He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Pinochle Club, Kiwanis, SOKOL, NCSML and volunteer.
John is survived by his son, Jay (Sherry) Cimburek of Grimes; his daughter, Joni Tharp (Michael Stewart) of Atkins; three grandchildren, Shenille and Jericho Cimburek and Jesse Tharp; a sister-in-law, Peggy Cimburek of Centennial, Colo.; and lifelong friend, Gordon Mollman of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his brother Jerry Cimburek; and lifelong friend, Bud Engberg.
Memorials may be directed to either NCSML, SOKOL, Hope Lutheran Church and or to Parkinson's Foundation.
