WINTHROP - Wrestling is a male dominated sport, especially at the high school level.
Males generally have more muscle and are stronger, which makes it hard for many females to compete against them in such a strength-oriented sport.
Former East Buchanan athlete Kendra Kehrli is one of the few females who had the fortitude and determination to succeed in wrestling.
Kehrli has been wrestling since she was a preschooler.
'I love the sport," Kehrli said. "My whole family does really. My older brother was an All-American in college and my dad is a fanatic for the sport. My dad got me started in it when I was just a little kid and I have done it ever since.'
Kehrli suffered an injury a junior and didn't return for her senior year. But she stayed involved in wrestling, however, helping her younger brother and sister become better athletes.
Kehrli is majoring in Animal Science at Iowa State University and plans to pursue a career in that field.
