CEDAR RAPIDS - The Xavier boys' bowling team is looking for more of the same in 2013-14.
The Saints placed second in the Class 1A state tournament as a team and Caleb Miller, a junior, placed first.
'Last year was a lot of fun,' Miller said. 'We accomplished a lot as a team, but this is a new year with new people.'
Xavier's girls' bowling team lost six varsity starters from last year, including two very important bowlers - Tara Trcka and Abbey Konzen. Trcka went to state four years in a row, winning the 2011 state title in Class 1A. Konzen also was a key contributor to the team.
This year, the girls' bowling has managed to find five new girls to fill all the required varsity spots. The team includes seniors Ashley Pudil, Katie Burke and Ellie Burke, junior Kayla Thompson and freshman MeLeah Grubb.
The Saints will have a lot of new faces this year and will begin their bowling season today.
