Larry was born March 6, 1936, in Cosgrove, the son of Martin and Agnes (Gallagher) Kinney. Graduating from Cosgrove High School, Larry met and married Jan Scheetz on July 5, 1955, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove. He worked as a line welder for Amana Refrigeration until 1965. In September of that same year, he joined the Iowa City Fire Department. He was promoted to training officer in 1971 and in November 1976, was promoted to fire marshal. He retired July 5, 1991.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Larry enjoyed Hawkeye football and the time spent with friends and family.
Upon meeting Larry, you were always greeted by a smile and a firm handshake. Although severely affected by the stroke and unable to speak - the affects of the stroke could not take away Larry's smile and the twinkle in his eye.
