Spirit Lake post player Ryan Kriener committed to the Iowa men's basketball program Thursday morning, he announced on Twitter.
Kriener, who will be a 6-foot-9 senior this year, averaged 19.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and shot 71.6 percent from the floor last year for Spirit Lake, which finished 20-4. He told Hawkeye Report on Wednesday that Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery had offered him a scholarship just that night.
'The first thoughts were that my hard work and everything has really paid off now,” Kriener told Hawkeye Report. 'I have always wanted to go to Iowa and have always been a Hawkeye fan. That is where I wanted to go and I've been busting my tail to get there. Now that I have the offer it was a big thing for me.”
Kriener is the second player committed to Iowa in the class of 2016, joining Dubuque Wahlert forward Cordell Pemsl. The Hawkeyes still have two scholarships available.
