TIPTON - Somewhere, Kolin Schulte still is running.
After amassing 131 yards on 11 carries in Class 2A No. 6 Anamosa's 56-20 win over Tipton, the Raiders senior quarterback certainly got his laps in.
'After the game, I'm feeling pretty good that we won,” Schulte said. 'I was feeling a little sick during the game, to be honest.”
Schulte even had a 97-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, but it was called back due to a holding penalty.
'I was very tired,” Schulte said about the run. 'I turned around and I saw them calling it off and I was so disappointed.”
Schulte wasn't alone. The Raiders ground game enforced their will, gaining 353 yards on 35 carries.
Tipton made the first strike for the Battle Since 1922 trophy. Adam Hermsen found Koby Johnston on a 31-yard touchdown pass to put the Tigers ahead 7-0 early.
Anamosa answered with a strong ground attack. The Raiders rumbled for 63 yards in just over 2 minutes to tie the game, 7-7.
'Their offense is good and they got going,” said Anamosa head coach Ryan Streets.
Schulte continued to find the holes in the Tipton defense. He scrambled 45 yards through the middle of the field and outraced a Tipton cornerback to the end zone to give Anamosa a 21-7 lead.
'We just had some plays drawn up that we knew would work,” Streets said. 'We kept it really simple.”
Tipton rallied to start the third quarter when Riley Ford recovered an Anamosa fumble.
Johnston turned that into a 20-yard touchdown run to make the score 28-14.
Anamosa countered, however, this time through the air.
On a 1st-and-goal from the 18, Schulte hit Tyler Zumbach in the corner of the end-zone for a score.
Tipton fumbled on its ensuing drive, and Schulte found Daniel Husmann for a 24-yard touchdown pass to make the score 42-14.
'We're pretty confident,” Schulte said about starting 3-0.
'We've got a lot of guys back and a lot of experience, so we know what we're doing.”
