The Burlington and Cedar Rapids Prairie high school football teams traded touchdowns on the first two plays last night, but then it was all Hawks in a 49-10 win in the Class 4A District 6 opener at Bracewell Stadium.
Burlington running back Joe Mack scored on an 80-yard touchdown run just 10 seconds into the contest, and Prairie's Jalen Rima's ensuing 87-yard kickoff return for a score got the Hawks on their way.
Keagan Pinter scored three consecutive rushing touchdown and quarterback Dakota Simonsen threw for another as the Hawks scored 28 unanswered points. Simonsen replaced starter Trey Beckman, who was out because of a concussion.
Jomaryon Simpson and sophomore quarterback Kenneth Taylor each scored touchdowns in the third quarter, with Taylor scoring on a 71-yard dash.
Pinter rushed for 140 yards and Coen Brown and Kyle Castonguay each intercepted Burlington quarterback Jonathan Langerud as the Hawks forced four turnovers on the night.

ANAMOSA 36, CAMANCHE 7
— Gavin Timp caught two touchdown passes and kicked a 31-yard field goal as the Raiders (4-1) picked up their fourth straight win.
After Timp's 31-yard field goal in the first, Anamosa scored 28 second-quarter points — on 19- and 37-yard passes from Kolin Schulte to Timp and 2- and 3-yard runs by Ty Houska and Daniel Husman, respectively.
Schulte completed 5 of 7 passes for 116 yards and added 79 rushing yards, including a 43-yard touchdown run in the third, on 13 carries.

WEST DELAWARE 53, CRESTWOOD 0
— Coy Roussell rushed for four touchdowns and Brent Lammers ran for two and passed for another as the Hawks remained unbeaten with a win in Manchester.
Roussell totaled 123 yards on 20 carries, scoring touchdowns on runs of 6, 1, 3 and 3 yards. Lammers completed 7 of 8 passes for 185 yards, including a 26-yard TD pass to Max Ridenour, and also rushed for 98 yards, scoring on a pair of 13-yard runs.
Trent Curley scored the Hawks' final TD on a 9-yard pass from Ridenour.

STARMONT 32, EAST BUCHANAN 20
— The Stars put together a turnaround second quarter, surging to a Class A-5 win in Winthrop.
The Bucs struck on the opening possession when Michael Naber capped a 14-play, 76-yard drive with a 23-yard touchdown reception from Ryan Schmitt.
However, three lost fumbles and Jake Butler's 86-yard punt return fueled a 20-point second quarter as Starmont turned the game around and took a 20-7 lead into halftime.
Starmont (2-3, 2-1) sealed the win with a late touchdown pass from Schmitt to Jacob Schmitt.

WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 24, DECORAH 3
— Jake Velky completed 10 of 17 passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns as the Go-Hawks won big in Decorah.
Waverly-Shell Rock held the Vikings to 134 yards of offense.

MOUNT VERNON 10, MONTICELLO 3
— Mickey Hines returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown with 5:56 left in the game as the Mustangs (3-2, 3-0) rallied for a win at home.
Mount Vernon's only other score was a safety when Josh Hof and Sam Moore tackled a Panther runner in the end zone. Monticello was held to 145 yards of offense.

ALBURNETT 20, DURANT 17
— Joey Philipp kicked a pair of 36-yard field goals in the final five minutes to lift the Pirates to a win at home.
Conner Schulista rushed for 108 yards on 20 carries for Alburnett.
CASCADE 42, NORTHEAST 0
— Nate Bergfeld scored two offensive touchdowns and added another on defense as the Cougars rolled in Goose Lake.
Bergfeld caught two passes for 92 yards and a touchdown, ran 22 yards for another score and capped the night off with two interceptions, one returned 45 yards for a touchdown.
Derek Lieurance completed 8 of 9 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns and Reis Rausch had three receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
NORTH CEDAR 49, TIPTON 20
— Adam Poduska rushed for 147 yards and four touchdowns and Jayden Johnson passed for 122 yards and a score as the Knights won in Stanwood.
Johnson completed 11 of 22 passes and also rushed 14 times for 114 yards. Poduska, who carried the ball 12 times, also had 12 tackles.
SOLON 28, WASHINGTON (IOWA) 17 — Brandon Childs threw touchdown passes to Nate Christensen and Trevor Yahr and kicked all four extra points as the Spartans (4-1, 2-1 in 3A-4) won at home.
Body copy ragged right: Connor Ham rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown and Halston Durr had a 56-yard interception return for a touchdown. Brandon Kramer led Solon with 137 yards on 21 rushes.
Body copy ragged right: Daryn Sebelius threw both of his touchdown passes to Javonn Willis for the Demons. Jacob Hennigan had 107 yards on 16 carries and Jacob Baughman connected on a 40-yard field goal.
