Upper Iowa blows past Minnesota-Moorhead

Freshman quarterback Cole Jaeschke completed 12 of 18 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns lifting the Peacocks to a 45-31 win over Minnesota-Moorhead in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game Saturday at Eischeid Stadium in Fayette.
Upper Iowa (2-1, 1-1) also got a 44-yard scoring toss from receiver Drew Kaluzny to former Cedar Rapids Washington prep Shay Gutman. The Peacocks led 21-17 in the second quarter, but scored just before halftime and early in the third quarter on a pair of scoring runs (32 and 57 yards) from freshman running back Chris Smith, who finished with 158 yards on 14 carries.
Junior linebacker Tony Leggett led the defense with 12 tackles.
The visiting Dragons fell to 2-1, 0-2.
CENTRAL 38, LUTHER 9 - At Pella, Central quarterback Nate Snead passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more as the Dutch rolled at Ron Schipper Stadium.
Snead carried 21 times for 130 yards and completed 8 of 20 passes for 108 yards. Central's defense frustrated Luther (0-3, 0-1) all afternoon, holding the Norse to 240 yards of total offense, just 80 on the ground.
Luther's lone touchdown came on a 4-yard run from Chris Reynolds in the second quarter. Norse linebacker Kyle McGivney had another solid game with 13 tackles and an interception.
Central is 2-1, 1-0.
