Iowa soccer victorious in season opener
IOWA CITY – The Iowa soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 win over Pacific at home Friday.
The Hawkeyes lit the scoreboard in the 21st minute when Bri Toelle snuck through the back line, handled a pass from defender Rachele Armand and fired it past Lena Perry.
Iowa had two more chances to add to that lead at the end of the first half, but Perry made a diving save, then recovered and squeezed a ball that nearly went through her legs.
Hannah Clark made six saves for Iowa in the shutout. The Hawkeyes out-shot the Tigers 15-8.
Iowa hosts Nebraska-Omaha at 1 p.m. Sunday.
