DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - President Barack Obama has signed a presidential disaster declaration for six Iowa counties hit by severe storms in July.
The White House says the declaration was issued Wednesday for Benton, Clay, Dickinson, Marshall, Story and Tama counties following widespread damage from storms on July 9-14.
Gov. Terry Branstad requested the declaration to help the counties recover.
A presidential major disaster declaration authorizes long-term federal recovery programs and is designed to help public entities and select nonprofit organizations.
