Huston, Vlasta
Vlasta Huston, 94, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at the Hiawatha Care Center after a long illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Ted Powers of Asbury United Methodist Church will officiate. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the chapel. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Tom) Wisnousky of West Des Moines, John E. (Sherren) Huston of Cedar Rapids and Jim Huston of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, Ted (Lisa) Wisnousky, Cathy and Cindy Huston; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Kayla and Jake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Vladimir and John; her husband, Marv; and her grandson, Daniel Wisnousky.
Vlasta was born Sept. 30, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Frances Manak. She graduated from Grant High School. She married Marv Huston on Nov. 7, 1936. They were married for 34 years at the time of his death in 1971.
Vlasta was a wonderful mother, working tirelessly for her family. She loved working outside in her yard and playing cards with friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially kolaches. She was employed for a time at Killian's Department Store. She was a member of Sokol, ZCBJ, Western Fraternal Lodge 262, Ambar Grotto, the Shrine Auxiliary, and the Pautz Fellowship Group.
The family would like to thank the staffs of the Promise House and the Hiawatha Care Center for their care of Vlasta in her final days.
