William Charles Ashburn, 78, of Marion, died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with visitation one hour prior to service. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
William was born June 21, 1939, the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Gifford) Ashburn, in Cerro Gordo County. He served with the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960. On Feb. 7, 1961, William was married to Sandra Kay Ell. He worked as a plumber as well as in construction.
William was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed woodworking and all genres of music. His greatest joy was time spent with his family. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Ashburn; five children, Lisa (John Howard) McCloskey, Scott Ashburn, Steven Ashburn, Lynda (David) Orman and Laura (Bill Leibold) Reinert; six grandchildren, Desarae Shaw, Summer Reinert, Jordyn Reinert, Ashley Ashburn, Alex Orman and Craig Orman; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Shaw and Brody Shaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dorothy Austin.
