William "Bill" C. Filson, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services.
William was born May 9, 1924, in Birmingham, the son of Paul W. and Virgie A. (Weaver) Filson. William served in the United States Army during World War II. William was united in marriage to Leta Brown on July 19, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. He worked for FMC Linkbelt and Sadler until retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed gardening, flowers, fixing anything mechanical and spending time with his family.
William is survived by his children, Vicki (Bill) Filling and Denise Houlahan, both of Cedar Rapids, and Donna Rich and Sandra Fisher, both of Solon; 10 grandchildren, Michelle (Donna) Moeller, Craig Filling, Heather Filling-Ketcham, Hayley Gorman, Robert Rich III, Treva Rich, Jennifer Fisher, Stephanie Fisher, Amanda Fisher and Brittney Fisher; nine great-grandchildren, Zachary, Courtney, Aiyanna, Blake, Austin, Andrew, Alex, Kaelyn and Emma; two great-great-grandchildren, Arieanna and Jayce; and a brother, Jim (Nada) Kirby of Kingsport, Tenn.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leta; a grandson, Adam Gorman; and three sisters, Margaret (Elmer) Henecke, Dorothy Sallow and Pauline "Annie" (Dale) Hadenfeldt.
