Wilbur E. Brislawn, 76, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Thurs-day, May 28, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center after a courageous battle of Multiple Myeloma. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, at the United Methodist Church in Center Point. Visitation will be before the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Private family burial at a later date.
Wilbur was born Dec. 1, 1938. in Central City, Iowa, to Owen S. and Violet M. (Knapp) Brislawn. He attended Marion High School, where he played football and was a member of the 4-H club. After high school, he enlisted in the Army Reserves.
Wilbur was the owner of Delta Masonry, the largest non-union contractor in Denver, Colo., in the 1980s. He built many schools, churches, 7-11s, Walgreens, water treatment plants and Concourse E at Denver International Airport, to name a few.
He was known for being a pool shark and quite the jokester. He loved fishing and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also was a Denver Bronco fan.
He is survived by his mother, Violet Brislawn of Marion; children, Scott Brislawn of Cedar Rapids, Paul (Terry) Letts of Center Point, Laurie (Kevin) Saylor of Osborne, Kan., and Donna Brislawn-Fisher and Jill Oliveira of Bridgeport, Conn.; siblings, Larry (Diana) Brislawn and Diana (Victor) Smith, both of Hiawatha; sister-in-law, Jeannie Brislawn of Center Point; 16 grand-children; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his father, Owen Brislawn; brother, Gary Brislawn; and grand-daughter, Cassandra Fisher.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
Thank you Dr. Ghosh and staff, the Mercy Medical staff, and his siblings, Larry and Diana, who were his caregivers until the end.
