"Lightning" Kunz, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday evening, July 17, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be at
3 p.m. Saturday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, by Deacon Jim Berger. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
William is survived by his wife, Johnine; son, William Andrew (Jill) Kunz; granddaughters, Lydia Mae and Addilynn Melissa Kunz; sister, Julie West; nephew, Danny West; niece, Angie (Marc) Knight; stepchildren, Robbin (Lonnie) O'Neal, Terry Tilton, Cheryl (Rick) High, Tim (Becky) Hildenbrand, Deneen (Tim) Weaver and Michelle (Bret) Frieden; 20 stepgrandchildren; and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Erma (Ward) Kunz; brother-in-law, Dennis West; stepdaughter, Melissa Hildenbrand; and stepson-in-law, Clayton Tilton.
William was born on July 27, 1942, in Wesley, Iowa, and came to Cedar Rapids from there in 1976. He married Johnine E. Hildenbrand on March 21, 1992, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. William was employed by Bowker Mechanical Contractors until his retirement in 2007.
William was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. He was a member of Union Local 234 Operating Engineers.
A memorial fund has been established and contributions may be directed to the family.
