Kernels get offensive in swatting Bees, 8-2

BURLINGTON - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored early and often and ripped the Burlington Bees, 8-2, Thursday night at Community Field.
The Kernels (46-32 overall, 5-3 second half) have won four in a row. They scored three times each in the second and third innings and again in the fourth and fifth for an 8-1 lead.
Max Murphy and Rafael Valera had three hits apiece for Cedar Rapids, with Valera driving in three runs. J.J. Fernandez and Edgar Corcino added two hits each.
Starting pitcher Ethan Mildren (2-0) continued his good run since returning to the Kernels, throwing seven innings and allowing just three hits and one earned run. That was the first run he has allowed in three starts.
