Jefferson boys' hoops announces Cole Johansen Scholarship Award

Cedar Rapids Jefferson boys' basketball coach Stu Ordman said in a press release Friday that the school will institute a scholarship for a senior player each season in honor of former assistant coach Cole Johansen.

The Cole Johansen Scholarship Award will go to a player "who shows outstanding dedication to team concepts and academic learning that Mr. Johansen has exemplified in his life." The award will be used to defray the cost of tuition/room and board at a college.Johansen worked as a counselor, teacher and coach at Jeff for over 20 years.

"He was beloved by students, players and fellow coaches," Ordman said.An official announcement of the scholarship will come Friday, Feb. 7, between the girls' and boys' varsity double-header at Jefferson between the J-Hawks and Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
