Johnson, Lois 'Arlene' (Butz)
Lois ‘Arlene' (Butz) Johnson, 72, of Newhall, died Dec. 29, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Newhall, by Father Craig Steimel. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church in Newhall. Interment: Raetz Cemetery, Atkins, at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established.
Arlene was born Nov. 9, 1941, in Pittsburg, Kan., to George and Mary Ruth (Woods) Knapp. She graduated from Atkins High School. Arlene retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation. On Sept. 23, 1995, Arlene was united in marriage to Robert Johnson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
In her leisure she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, quilting, collecting antiques and playing cards. Arlene most enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson of Newhall; her children, Brenda Glaser of Cedar Rapids, Steve (Cheryl) Butz of Woodbury, Minn., and Patrick (Tina) Butz of Newhall; her stepchildren, Michelle Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Lisa) Johnson of Edwardsville, Ill.; her 12 grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Earlene (Eldon) Stueck of Atkins, Linda Stark of Cedar Rapids, Sandra (Larry) Vetter of Larimore, N.D., and Mary (Steve) Noeller of Marion.
In addition to her parents, Arlene was preceded in death by her sister, Georgia Ruth Knapp.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
