Hometown boy Westphal does well in Kernels’ victory

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - Luke Westphal threw five innings and got the victory as the Cedar Rapids Kernels edged Wisconsin, 3-2, Tuesay afternnoon at Fox Cities Stadium.
Westphal is from Clintonville, Wis., and played collegiately at Wisconsin-Oshkosh, so this was a successful homecoming for him. He allowed just one hit and a run, striking out five in his first start for the Kernels.
Randy LeBlanc and Cam Booser finished up the two-hitter.
Brian Navaretto had three hits and an RBI for Cedar Rapids. Zack Larson had two hits and an RBI, while Rafael Valera walked three times.
The teams play again Wednesday night at 7:05.
