GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels got strong starting pitching from Sam Gibbons and went on to top the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 4-0, Monday night.
The Australian Gibbons threw six innings, allowed only two hits and struck out five to notch a win that improved his season record to 2-2. Luke Bard and Trevor Hildenberger followed with thee shutout innings, with a spotless ninth from Hildenberger assuring the Kernels would improve to 43-32 overall and 2-3 in the second half.
Wisconsin is 25-50, Tanner English, J.J. Fernandez and Nick Gordon had a pair of hits each for Kernels, who play again Saturday night at 6:35. Gordon had two RBIs.
