No. 2 running back sort of an open deal

Jason White was the No. 2 running back in Iowa's opener against Tennessee Tech. It said so right there on the depth chart.
Well, that's not how it turned out. Freshman Mika'il McCall ran nine times for 61 yards before he suffered a broken ankle and was lost for the season. So, again, White, a 5-foot-10, 205-pound junior walk-on, is listed No. 2 on the depth chart behind sophomore Marcus Coker.
It might be for real this week. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz even said so.
"I'm not sure," said White, who had 1 yard on one carry last week.
Coach said so.
"Well, there it is," White said. "I'm as ready as I can be, I guess. If they call again, I'm going to try to answer anyway I can as best as I can."
Really, though, everyone running back is in the mix.
After White, maybe it's De'Andre Johnson, a redshirt freshman who gained 32 yards on eight carries last week. True freshman Damon Bullock took off the redshirt and played slot receiver. The 6-0, 195-pounder was switched to running back this week.
Jordan Canzeri, another true freshman, also is being considered. The 5-9, 172-pounder is still in redshirt mode, but that could change quickly.
"We'll just let all the backs practice this week and see who does the best," Ferentz said. "We'll take it [the redshirt] off anybody. We'd have taken it off Saturday if we had to."
