Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids Kernels and the Kernels Foundation cordially award Mack Mattke the 2012 Nick Adenhart Memorial Scholarship. Matt was recognized before the Kernels game versus Beloit on Sunday, June 24th.
Mack graduated from Xavier HS this spring in 2012. He has accomplished many things, from school activities, academic achievements, and baseball accomplishments to name a few. The Mattke's are no strangers to the Kernels, being a Host Family in 2006. During that time, Mack had the opportunity to get to know Nick while he played in Cedar Rapids. Mack has plans to continue his education at Purdue University to study engineering, and to play baseball for the Boilermakers.
Nick Adenhart was a rising star, pitching for the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2006 and gaining favor in the Los Angeles Angels Organization. After only a few hours of Nick's 2009 season debut on the mound for the Angels, he was tragically killed by a drunk driver on April 9, 2009 at the young age of 22.
To honor their son, Nick's Family would like to award a $1,000 scholarship in his memory. The Cedar Rapids Kernels and the Kernels foundation are privileged to bestow the scholarship on the behalf of the Adenhart family.
