West girls, Prairie boys favored at MVC Super meet

CEDAR RAPIDS — Iowa City West's girls and Cedar Rapids Prairie's boys are slight favorites at the Mississippi Valley Conference cross country Super meet Thursday afternoon at Noelridge Park.
The varsity girls' race is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. with the boys toeing the line at 4:40.
West is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A and is bidding to unseat No. 3 Iowa City High, the defending champion. City High's Mary Arch was the individual champion last year at Byrnes Park in Waterloo as the Little Hawks captured the title. Cedar Falls was second and is ranked No. 5 this season.
West's Gabby Skopec is the top-ranked girl in 4A. She'll be challenged by Arch, as well as Reagan Gorman of Cedar Rapids Washington, Anna Lindower of City High and Bailey Nock of West.
Cedar Falls edged Prairie, 28-34, for the boys' title last year. Prairie is ranked No. 3 in 4A. Dubuque Hempstead is sixth, Linn-Mar seventh, Iowa City High eighth and West ninth.
Top individual contenders in the boys race include Ryan Murphy of Linn-Mar, Sam Schillinger of Cedar Falls and Addison Kalb of Dubuque Hempstead.
