C.R. Kernels blast Kane County, 10-1, give Manager Jake Mauer his 301st career Kernels win

GENEVA, Ill. — Zander Wiel had five hits and helped lift the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 10-1 victory Friday night over the Kane County Cougars at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Wiel went 5-for-5 with a run scored and RBI as Cedar Rapids improved to 63-53 overall and 27-20 in the second half. The Kernels had 16 hits, five from Wiel and two apiece from Sean Miller, J.J. Fernandez, Casey Scoggins and Kevin Garcia.
Garcia drove in three runs.
Miles Nordgren (4-1) gave up five hits and an unearned run to pick up the starting pitching victory for Cedar Rapids. He walked two and struck out four, overcoming a lenghty rain delay.
Logan Lombana finished up with two shutout relief innings. The teams play again Saturday night.
This was the 301st career victory as Cedar Rapids Kernels Manager for Jake Mauer. He is the second all-time winningest skipper in the club's illustrious history.
