Kernels pitcher Merck released

Jul. 9, 2013 1:35 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Kernels announced Tuesday that relief pitcher Kaleb Merck has been given his outright release by the Minnesota Twins.
Merck, a right-hander, went 1-1 with a 6.75 earned run average and one save in six games for Cedar Rapids. In 12 innings, he allowed 16 hits, walked three and struck out nine.
He was a 33rd-round draft pick of the Twins last year out of Texas Christian University.
Merck's release leaves the Kernels with 24 active players on their roster, one shy of maximum. The club hosts Dayton to begin a six-game homestand Wednesday night at 6:35.
