GENEVA, Ill. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels were limited to four hits and didn't score until the ninth inning Wednesday afternoon in a 4-1 loss to Kane County in Midwest League baseball. The Cougars took the rubber game of the three-game set.
Kane County (3-3) scored all the runs it needed in the fifth inning against Kernels starting pitcher Randy LeBlanc (1-1). Josh Anderson walked leading off and went to second on a Luis Veras single.
A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up, and Gali Cribbs lined a two-run single into left field. The Cougars added two insurance runs in the seventh against relief pitcher Logan Lombana.
The only Cedar Rapids run came in the ninth. Jermaine Palacios doubled leading off, went to third on a flyout and scored on a sacrifice fly from Zander Wiel.
