DAVENPORT — The Cedar Rapids Kernels won't be clinching a Midwest League playoff berth in the first half.
A 3-2 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday night eliminated the Kernels from first-half playoff contention. Peoria and Clinton are the two first-half qualifiers in the Western Division, and they go into the final day of the first half tied for first place.
A Connor Goedert sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Quad Cities the winning run. Cam Booser (0-2) took the loss in relief.
Cedar Rapids fell behind, 2-0, through five innings, tying it with a run in the sixth and another in the eighth on a J.J. Fernandez RBI single.
The teams close the first half with a game Sunday afternoon at 2:05 here.
