Cedar Rapids Kernels improve to 3-0 with win at Quad Cities

DAVENPORT - Rafael Valera scored twice and tripled in two runs to help the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 6-2 win Saturday afternoon over Quad Cities. The win moved them to 3-0 in the young Midwest League season.
Valera reached on an error in the first inning and scored. He tripled to right in the third to score Luis Arraez and Sean Miller for a 3-0 C.R. lead.
Starting pitcher Sam Gibbons threw five innings, allowing five hits and a run to get the victory. Logan Lombana and John Curtiss followed up in relef.
The teams play again Sunday afternoon at 1:15 at Modern Woodmen Park.
