Irene Ida Kula, 93, of Marion, passed away Aug. 28, 2015, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Prairieburg, as per her wishes. Arrangements
by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.
Irene is survived by her children, Mary Frances Bailey of Prairieburg, Arlene Wiley (Bob) of Marion, Connie Kula of Marion and Bonnie Kula of Kansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne Remington of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, in 1999, parents and a brother, Glendon.
Irene was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Jones County, to Fred and Della (Grimm) Remington. She attended Story School. On Feb. 9, 1939, she married Lester Kula in Anamosa. She was a farm wife and later worked at Sauer's Grocery in Central City as a cashier and as a cook at the Abby Center.
