LANSING, Mich. — The Cedar Rapids Kernels stranded 13 runners on base in a 4-1 loss Monday night to the Lansing Lugnuts in Midwest League baseball.
Cedar Rapids (13-11) went 0 for 16 with runners in scoring position. Its only run came in the second inning when Bryant Hayman scored on a two-out wild pitch.
The Kernels got three hits from Rafael Valera and two from Zander Wiel. Starting pitcher Cody Stashak (2-1) was a tough-luck loser despite striking out eight in 5 2/3 innings.
He allowed six hits and two runs.
The teams play again Tuesday morning at 9:35 Iowa time.
