Remington, Albert Duane
Albert Duane Remington, a resident of Keystone Cedars in Cedar Rapids, died there Friday, Jan. 13, 2012. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012 at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Michael Metz. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Graveside service: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at Olin Cemetery, Olin, Iowa. Military honors provided by Blaney-Miner-Ahrendsen Post No. 412 of Olin, Iowa.
Survivors include his stepchildren, Delores Cullen of New Brockton, Ala., and Russell (Marlys) Guilford of Arlington Heights, Ill.; son-in-law, Larry Mackey of Farley, Iowa; brother, Delbert (Regina) Remington; nine grandchildren; many great- and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; stepson-in-law, Richard Cullen; stepdaughter, Vivian Mackey; sister, Ethel Kennebeck; and three brothers, Loren Remington, Leslie Remington, and Howard Remington.
Albert was born April 4, 1915 in Morley, Iowa, the son of James and Dora (Hotz) Remington. He married Verda Glick Guilford in January of 1946. Verda died in February, 2001. Albert served in the military during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He retired as a meat inspector in Cedar Rapids. Albert enjoyed hunting, fishing, cribbage, and dancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, or to Iowa Hospice.
