Rexford "Rex" J. Strottman, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 13, at UIHC.
A gathering time to celebrate Rex's life will be Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, (next to Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation for nephrology research and dialysis.
Rex was born June 19, 1936, the son of Arnold and Alice (Schwake) Strottman. He was raised in rural Sumner, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. Rex received his bachelor's degree in English and two master's degrees, in comparative literature and Russian, from the University of Iowa.
On Aug. 27, 1960, Rex married Mary Kreis in Honolulu.
Rex was employed at the University of Iowa Main Library in the serials department for many years.
He enjoyed time spent bicycling, camping and cooking. He was an avid reader and loved to travel, especially to Hawaii.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; their two children, Brad Strottman (Karyn Skaar) of Pittsburg, Texas, and Erika (Ken) Arndt of White Bear Lake, Minn.; five grandchildren, Johann, Bjorn, and Solveig Strottman and Muira and Sawyer Arndt; and his siblings, Daniel (Stevie) Strottman of Las Cruces, N.M., Greg (Susan) Strottman of Sumner and Rebecca (Chet) Walker of Stevensville, Mont.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents.
