Judge Patrick McAvan, Fairfield, was appointed District Associate Judge in 2023. He
earned his undergraduate degree from Loras College in 1996 and his law degree from the
University of Kansas School of Law in 1999. Judge McAvan served as the Assistant Jefferson
County Attorney from 1999-2023. He is a member of The Iowa State Bar Association and
the Iowa Judges Association. Judge McAvan is married and has three children.
