Andrew B. Chappell (nonpartisan)

Incumbent, District 6 - District Court

Judge Chappell, Iowa City, was appointed to the Iowa District Court in February 2017.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts with high honors in Political Theory and Constitutional
Democracies from James Madison College at Michigan State University in 1994 and his
Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1997. Prior to being
appointed, Judge Chappell was in private practice in Iowa City from 1997-2000 and was an
Assistant Johnson County Attorney in the Civil Division from 2000-2017. He is a member
of The Iowa State Bar Association and the Johnson County Bar Association and served
on the Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board and the ISBA Jury Instructions
Committee prior to his appointment. Judge Chappell is married and has one child.
