Hlas Podcast: Issues prompted by Aaron Hernandez

Ex-NFL player Nate Kaeding and sports psychologist Dr. Mitch Abrams offer insights

Aaron Hernandez. Just the name now stirs emotions and makes us ask questions. The most obvious is: If Hernandez is guilty of murder as charged, why did he throw away his financial security and all that goes with it for a violent act or acts?

The latest Mike Hlas Podcast features former NFL placekicker Nate Kaeding of Iowa, and sports psychologist Dr. Mitch Abrams. Kaeding will be a regular contributor to the podcast. Abrams is the author of "Anger Management in Sport: Understanding and Controlling Violence in Athletes."

Prompted by the arrest of former New England Patriots tight end Hernandez, we talk about whether there is more of a culture of violence and crime among NFL players than the general public, and what sports psychologists like Abrams can do to help athletes. Kaeding discusses how using sports psychologists helped him in his football career.
