College Community School District approves name for new school

Prairie Hill Elementary School will be the newest addition to the district

Prairie Hill Elementary School will be the newest addition to the College Community School District.

School board members approved the name during a March 11 regular meeting.

Administrators opened the naming process to the community with the public submitting more than 700 nominations, prompting an early halt to the contest. District students in kindergarten through fourth grade then voted on the five finalists, which included Prairie Fields, Prairie Grove, Prairie Peak and Prairie Summit.

Prairie Hill received 737 votes, almost double the 388 votes second-place finisher Prairie Peak garnered.

Construction on the school is set to be complete by fall 2014.
