Linn Community Food Banks thanks community

Please join me in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Linn Community Food Bank. Inspired and supported by local churches and the community, the food bank offers a central location for food distribution to the hungry. Those in need of food receive a three-day supply of non-perishable items as well as a voucher that can be used at one of several grocery stores in the community. Over the years, the food bank has provided food assistance to hundreds of thousands of needy members of our community.

The food bank is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization run by a working board. It receives no government support of any kind, relying instead on the generosity of the community. In 2011, the Linn Community Food Bank served 4,234 households for a total of 8,357 individuals. Projections for 2012 include serving more than 5,000 households and more than 10,000 people.

The food bank accepts donations of non-perishable food items from 8:30-10 a.m. Monday-Friday at First Presbyterian Church. Food is distributed to clients at First Presbyterian on weekdays from 1-3:15 p.m. Clients may access the services of the food bank six times during the calendar year. For more information, call (319) 364-3543.

The Linn Community Food Bank thanks the community for supporting our efforts to make Cedar Rapids and the surrounding areas free from hunger.
