A Cedar Rapids attorney pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court to possession of crack cocaine.
Stanley A. Roush, 52, faces 15 days to two years in federal prison for his guilty plea to possession of a controlled substance, crack cocaine, which is his second drug conviction. He also faces a $2,500 to $250,000 fine and supervised release up to one year.
Roush, who has been a licensed attorney since 1984, was charged in November after he made a $200 controlled purchase of crack cocaine involving a confidential informant, according to a criminal complaint. An informant told drug task force officers in May that Roush smoked crack cocaine with her once a month and gave her money to purchase crack cocaine.
According to the complaint, task force officers conducted surveillance during the drug transaction between Roush and the informant. The drugs were recovered from Roush's car after the purchase was made.
Court records of Roush's previous conviction in January 2003 for possession of marijuana were submitted to the court Tuesday, which will impact the sentencing guideline range.
Sentencing will be set after a pre-sentencing report is completed.
