A Hiawatha man has been charged with first-degree arson after a fire broke out at an apartment building Tuesday night.
Andrew C. Damisch, 40, was arrested after the fire at 285 Robins Rd. No one was injured, but 12 people were displaced, authorities said.
Police executed a search warrant on Damisch's apartment, B6, and found enough evidence to arrest him for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. Prosecutors upgraded to the arson charge.
“With a multi-family structure like that, the potential for something really bad happening is great,” Hiawatha Police Chief Dennis Marks said.
An investigation was continuing.
