Wegher requests scholarship release
Dec. 10, 2010 7:33 pm
Iowa running back Brandon Wegher, who sat out this season because of personal reasons, requested his scholarship release from the school and it has been granted, associate athletics director Fred Mims said Friday night.
Mims said the stipulations include Wegher not attend a Big Ten school on a scholarship. Wegher played high school football at Sioux City Heelan.
Wegher, a sophomore, rushed for a freshman-record eight touchdowns in 2009, left the team early in fall camp. He ran for 641 yards as a freshman.
In Iowa's Orange Bowl win against Georgia Tech, Wegher ran for 113 yards and a touchdown.
