Report: Ex-Hawk Dan Doering earns an NFL tryout
Apr. 26, 2010 9:02 am
Former Iowa offensive lineman Dan Doering struggled to get on the field during his tenure with the Hawkeyes, but he'll still get a shot at playing in the NFL.
The Seattle Seahawks have invited Doering to try out this weekend at its rookie mini-camp, according to www.seattlepi.com. Doering, a 6-foot-6, 300-pound native of Barrington, Ill., started six games for Iowa in his Hawkeye career, but only one during the last two seasons.
Doering is one of nine former Iowa rookies vying for an NFL shot this year. Offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga was drafted by Green Bay in the first round. Other draftees include: linebacker Pat Angerer (second round, Indianapolis), cornerback Amari Spievey (third round, Detroit), tight end Tony Moeaki (third round, Kansas City), linebacker A.J. Edds (fourth round, Miami) and offensive lineman Kyle Calloway (seventh round, Buffalo). Former Iowa wide receiver Trey Stross reportedly will sign with Houston as a free agent, while former offensive lineman Dace Richardson reportedly will try out for the New York Giants.
