Wednesday morning, the Big Ten released kickoff times for 2016 homecoming games.
Iowa has a homecoming. Every school in the Big Ten has a homecoming. So, we now have two more kickoff times for the Hawkeyes, but no TV networks were announced Wednesday.
First, Iowa's homecoming game against Northwestern Oct. 1 at Kinnick Stadium will be an 11 a.m. kick. The Hawkeyes showed they were a serious football team last season with their 40-10 beating of the Wildcats at Ryan Field. Iowa rushed 51 times for 294 yards, with running back Akrum Wadley going for 204 yards and four TDs.
Iowa has stung the Wildcats, a Big Ten West Division rival, 88-17 in their last two meetings and have a three-game winning streak in the series, with wins in four of the last five games. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz is 8-7 against Northwestern.
When Iowa travels to Purdue on Oct. 15, it also will be an 11 a.m. kickoff (central time) and will be Purdue's homecoming.
Iowa clinched its first Big Ten West Division title with a 40-20 victory over the Boilermakers last November. Iowa also has beaten Purdue three consecutive seasons and in five of their last six contests. Ferentz is 9-4 against Purdue.
These 11 a.m. kickoffs go along with the three night games that were announced last week. Iowa's Sept. 10 game with Iowa State at Kinnick will kick at 6:30 and be televised on the Big Ten Network. Iowa's game at Penn State will kick at 6:30 and also is on BTN. Iowa's Nov. 12 game against Michigan at Kinnick is a 7 p.m. kick and will be on one of the ABC/ESPN networks.
If anymore kickoff times are announced before the season starts, they likely will be Iowa's non-conference games against Miami (Ohio) in the season opener on Sept. 3 and North Dakota State on Sept. 17.
