IOWA CITY — Iowa men’s basketball video coordinator Al Seibert was elevated to director of operations, Fran McCaffery announced Thursday.
Seibert replaces Billy Taylor, who resigned in April to become head coach at Division II Belmont Abbey. Seibert joined the Iowa staff in 2011, replacing current NBA assistant and former Iowa player Ryan Bowen. Seibert has 18 years of coaching experience and was head coach at the University of New Haven (Conn.) from 2005-10.
“I’ve known Al Seibert for nearly 25 years,” McCaffery said in a statement. “Al has been a tremendous asset to our program the past five seasons as video coordinator and believe he will do an outstanding job in this new role. His knowledge of our program and everyday operations, along with his energy and excitement, is of great value to our program.”
Iowa has assigned numbers for its newcomers for the upcoming season. They include guard Maishe Dailey (1), guard Jordan Bohannon (3), forward Tyler Cook (5), forward/center Ryan Kriener (15), forward Cordell Pemsl (35) and walk-on forward Riley Till (20). Senior forward Dale Jones changed his number from 1 to 23.
Kriener, a 6-foot-10 post from Spirit Lake, will not play in the Prime Time League — at least for the short term — because of an illness.
